I've been busy trying to find out about some freebees, etc. to share with you and I have come across some contests and special offers through Homebasics that you might like to check out. I think they might only be available for our Canadian members but hey its a start. Do you have anything to add to this section of our newsletter?

As the Keeping in Touch Journal makes it way around the world, I'd like for folks to let us know when it arrives, your feelings when reading others thoughts; and when you send it on to it's next destination.

The Keeping in Touch Journal landed at it's first destination on Wednesday, (here), and I must say Jami did a wonderful job of putting this together in a simple but esthetic way. Her letter was very touching and insightful.

I will be adding my letter, and a translation into Portuguese for Grac & Talyta. I will posting it tomorrow and sending it to Graca, who will give it to her daughter. Then it will be sent to daphne who will translate their letters for the rest of us.

Enjoy folks.

And here's some more advice from sharon.

Create a Sense of Serenity...be sure to keep this with your WWWCOF Pursuit of Excellence material!

There's enough chaos in the world, but you can instead create serenity in your personal world. Here are 7 easy ideas:

    1. Get rid of one thing. If the prospect of ridding your entire house of clutter seems to be am impossible feat, make it your goal to get rid of just one thing you don't need each day.

    2. Clear the clutter out of your vehicle. Get rid of candy wrappers, soda cans, old papers, magazines and other trash on a daily basis.

    3. Eliminate the chaos from your desk. The surface of your desk should be free of all papers and other debris to set the stage for productivity and creative thinking.

    4. Wake up earlier. Stop rushing around each day. Wake up earlier so you have enough time to relax with a cup of coffee, to step outside and breathe in the fresh air or to read a chapter in your favorite inspirational book.

    5. Dedicate 30 minutes to You. Schedule no less than 30 minutes each day to do something you love. Keep that appointment, just as you would any other important one.

    6. Make your bedroom a restful haven. Every morning, make your bed right after you get up. Remove the piles of paper. Clear off the dresser tops. Put any dirty clothes in the laundry room. Remove the dusty stuff stored under the bed and get rid of anything you no longer need. When you're ready to go to bed at night, you should be able to do so in a peaceful, uncluttered place.

    7. Sprinkle in some rewards. Many people agonize just trying to get through their To Do lists. To make your day more fulfilling, while still getting things done, sprinkle rewards throughout your day. For example, take 10 minutes to do something you enjoy after every single task you complete.

(I recieved this email from my daughter Billie [Belinda, who is also a WWWCOF member]) Hi Mom:

I had the best time @ the Tracy Lawrence concert. I had front row centre seats. He shook my hand. It was awesome. After the concert I met Pete @ the casino and did some gambling. I played the 5 cent slot machines. I spent $80 and won a total of $745. Any how, I am enclosing pictures from the concert as we were aloud to have cameras. I of course didn't have my camera so I used my phone, so they are not the best pictures, but they are pictures.

Love Billie

Editors Note:

I've included the photos, but she's right they are poor quality.

Looks like I am going to be somewhat busy the first week and half of Sept. Between all the end of month paperwork, then Our house, (work) will be hosting a BBQ on the 12th

Then on the 13th we will be hosting a dinner for some of the candidates running for office senators and congressmen along with some of our office people. We are having a progressive dinner; couple of houses will be doing main dinner yours truly will be doing a Parmesan Basil Chicken with lil potatoes, peppers and onions. Side dishes will consist of Spinach quiche, and a Basil Pasta salad, along with a tomato, green pepper, onion and basil salad; with some nice warm French bread slices.

To drink I will be making a lemon lime punch. Hope we win lots of brownie points with these people, as they will be our ticket to keeping our funding in the national Budget, and maybe even more money for the direct care staff for next fiscal year.

The end of the month is one of our biggest fund raisers for the year, called Oktoberfest. Where lots of German foods and Beers will be sold. We have German dancers etc. for entertainment. I will help out that weekend by working one of the concessions or exchanging tokens for their cash.

Oh forgot our County Fair the middle of the month. I will be taking my gang to see one of the Country singers, and enjoy the fair.

Will keep you all posted as to how things went along when the time comes.

Hope all is well...I tried to get more rest but I think I am too wired to do so...we rescheduled our flight from Thursday to Friday and needless to say I was scared silly to travel on Thursday due to the terrible probs London had

Our flight for Friday was going to take off at 7:20 PM and we arrived at the airport 4 hours early...lines were bad at the sky cap but went smoothly with security

Well our plane was very late getting off the ground...as we approached Phoenix there were bad t-showers and we circled for a long time with no improvement in the weather...our pilot landed in Tucson to get fuel and we had to wait for clearance from Phoenix if we could land there or not...there was a lot of traffic at the airports which made waiting longer...we arrived home at 3:00 AM or so....I had a wonderful time in Joisey...will write about that at another time....take care

Love,

Arlene

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

"The purpose of life is ... to know oneself. We cannot do so unless we learn to identify ourselves with all that lives." -- Mohandas K. Gandhi.

And I think this is the perfect spot for the folloing that was sent to me by Jeanette. This has been a rounf for many years, most of you have seen I'm sure. However, i think it is perfect and signifies to many of us what our relationships in the WWWCOF mean to us.

Dear Friends,

I am sending this to you to see how many actually read their e-mail. Your response will be interesting. Pay attention to what you read. After you have finished reading it, you will know the reason it was sent to you. Here goes:

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that Our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer You sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.

Some people come into your life for a SEASON, because your turn has come to share, grow or learn. They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it, it is real. But only for a season.!

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being a part of my life, whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.

Tilbury Times The Hastings Reminder

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this...

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is "UP."

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen.

We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP.

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP. When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP. One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so............ Time to shut UP.....!

Oh...one more thing:

What is the first thing you do in the morning & the last thing you do at night? U-P

As the saying goes " look after our planet.......... its the only one with CHOCOLATE!!"

Birds in danger. Our British correspondent, Sylvia, has been sending me a lot of stuff on how climate change is affecting so many aspects of life.
The main human induced cause of climate change is the burning of fossil fuels. Birds are a powerful indicator of environmental change, for example as the North Sea becomes warmer the food chain is disrupted and sea birds can no longer find food, and hundreds of thousands of seabirds failed to raise any young in the last couple of years.
Drought in Southern England, affecting the habitat of many species has caused drops of up to 80% in the breeding. It has also been noticed that the migration of certain swans and geese is also affected by warmer areas.
More information can be found at Bird Protection , which in turn is a member of Stop Climate Chaos
Sylvia has also brought attention to the fact that lately great White sharks have been spotted of the south west coast of England. These creatures are usually temperate water beings.
She recommends World Wildlife Fund for information on wildlife the world over.

In an indirect way, our west Canadian correspondent, Sharon, has been letting us know what is happening environmentally in B.C.

In a recent magazine there is an article on the spotted owl. In the past there were between 300 and 500 pairs of spotted owls living in B.C: Today only 22 are known to exist. The female one or two young every two years, but last year none were known to survive. The cause is put on the clearing of forests which means the animals the owls live on are leaving the area. More information can be found at: for Species at Risk.

Remember Jeanette from the Land Down Under has set up a trivia challenge on FunTrivia.com for us so please join in on the fun. New questions will appear each day, and everyone can compare scores at the link above throughout the day. Try to answer questions quickly, because the quizzes are timed. The best cumulative scores at the end of the month go into the hall of fame. See you there!

Friendship

" A friendship can weather most things and thrive in the soil; But it needs a little mulch of letters, phone calls and small silly presents ever so often - just to save it from drying out completely"

TRUE MEANING 0F LOVE

It was a busy morning, approximately 8:30 am, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He stated that he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.

On exam it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.

While taking care of his wound, we began to engage in conversation. I asked him if he had a doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.

I then inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer Disease. As we talked, and I finished dressing his wound, I asked if she would be worried if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him. "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?" He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is."

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, "That is the kind of love I want in my life."

True love is neither physical, nor romantic True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

Oh, by the way, peace is seeing a sunset and knowing who to thank. "The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything that comes along their way."

Please share this with someone you care about.

Here's this week's news from our Argentinian Correspondent, Daphne.

Last weekend Leo and I went with our dance group to a rural town Madariaga, about an hour and a half away by bus, because our group was taking part in a dance competition. We left soon after 11 in the morning, a bus full of Sol 21 members

dance group and their sister group Huellas Argentinas, and got there in plenty of time for a picnic lunch in the park.
It was a lovely sunny day and by 3 p.m we made our way to the hall where the competition was to take place, this being actually the 2nd day of the contest. We were early so we all collared the front rows of seats.
Nothing happened for a full hour, by which time some of us had started wandering away to explore. It eventually started in dribs and drabs around 5 pm. There were groups and individuals from all over the province of Buenos Aires.

Our group was changed and ready and were sitting around for five hours before their turn was called (the ones in floral skirts). It actually went on AAAAALLLLLLLL night.
A few of us left the packed hall from time to time to try to get some sleep in our bus but it was sooooooooooo cold that sleep was impossible! The last participant ended at 10 am on the Sunday, and then there was a further two hours of announcing price winners.

Sol 21 didn't win anything, but Huellas Argentinas had a third prize. Both groups had put on a fun entertainment (unknown to the rest of us) around midnight representing a country ball where they were all dressed in paper mache heads of the animals in the country, foxes, geese, ostriches, toads etc with our teacher as the village drunk.

It was funny, but I didnt get any pictures of that part, our group photographer has promised to let me have some later. We actually got back home at 3 in the afternoon on Sunday, exhausted, but it was fun.
